Tilly at Two

In 1998, Tilly was two and made a great deal of progress. We started by teaching her to lead in a bridle and then moved on to long-reining. By long-reining I do not mean lunging, but moving in straight lines and turning. At first, she had difficulty with turning but she soon got the hang of it. We long-reined her down the bridlepath and on very quite lanes.

We gradually added bits of harness so that she could get used to them. Then we started teaching her to pull: first with a tyre and then with a specially constructed "training cart". Note that we did not use blinkers. She was very laid back about the whole process.

We took Tilly to a couple of shows for training. But she didn't do very well: she seemed rather underdeveloped for her age.
